Daily Pact

Daily Pact

Our pick5.0 on the App Store

For friends on the same journey who'd rather compare habits than numbers.

Put the two or three habits that matter in a private Daily Pact group, check in with one tap, and let the leaderboard show who did them today. No weight, no calories, nothing to be embarrassed about. PactPause covers a holiday. iPhone and Android. Free for 14 days, then $0.99 a month.

If that doesn't fit you

  • It's the workouts you skip, with one partner: Sweatmates, photo proof, iPhone.
  • You'd rather not tell your friends: Cohorty, free, strangers on the same challenge.
  • You want a person, not a leaderboard: GoalsWon, $90 a month.
  • You need a consequence: FineStreak.

How we chose

We build Daily Pact, so read our pick with that in mind. Every app here was judged on the same questions: who notices when you skip, how fast the check-in is, what happens after a missed day, and what it really costs. We say plainly where another app does something we don't. The full policy is on our About page.

The habits behind the number, with friends watching

Daily Pact doesn't track weight, calories or macros, and that's deliberate. Weight loss that lasts is a handful of daily habits — 8,000 steps, two litres of water, no sugar, cook at home, gym three times a week — and those are exactly what a one-tap check-in is for. Put them in a private group with friends on the same journey, and the leaderboard shows who did their habits today, not who weighs what. Nobody has to share a number. PactPause covers a holiday or a bad week without ending the streak.

Workout accountability for two, with photo proof

If the exercise half of weight loss is where you slip, Sweatmates pairs you with one partner, has you both set a weekly workout goal, and asks for a photo each time. A cohort of strangers on the same 30-day habit

Cohorty matches you into a cohort of 5 to 15 people doing the same 7 to 30-day challenge and shows check-ins as marks, no chat required. For weight loss it's a way to do "no sugar for 30 days" with people you don't have to explain yourself to. Free at the time of checking.

A 21-day sprint with stakes

  • Both platforms

Cons

  • Four weeks max
  • No leaderboard
  • Daily, not weekly
Price: Free with friends; credits from $9.99Platforms: iOS, AndroidBest for: A short, strict block
G

A human coach reads your check-in every day

GoalsWon assigns a professional accountability coach who reads your daily check-in and replies personally, every day, with a monthly video call. It isn't a diet service — the coach holds you to whatever plan you bring — but for people who want a person rather than a leaderboard, it's the most hands-on option. $90 a month with a 7-day trial, or $720 a year with a 14-day trial.

Pros

  • Daily human reply
  • Supportive or firm, your choice
  • All platforms

Cons

  • $90/mo or $720/yr
  • No group
  • Not a nutrition service

F

An AI that calls you and, if you choose, fines you

FineStreak calls or texts at your chosen time, asks whether you did the thing, and at the stricter tiers wants a photo or a live check. Fines are off by default and run from ten cents to $50 a miss when on. From $8 a month, browser only. Solo by design.

Pros

  • No friends needed
  • Hard to fake at strict tiers
  • Fines optional

Cons

  • No free tier
  • Web only
  • Not social
Price: $5–20/moPlatforms: WebBest for: People who need a consequence

Track the habits, not the scale

None of the apps above tracks your weight, and that's not an oversight. Weight moves slowly and noisily; a daily weigh-in is one of the most discouraging habits there is. The behaviours that produce weight loss are daily, binary and boring, which makes them perfect for a check-in with friends. Keep your calorie or weight app if you use one, and use an accountability app for the five habits underneath it.

  • 8,000 steps
  • Two litres of water
  • No sugar, or no snacks after 8pm
  • Cook at home (weekly target: 5 nights)
  • Gym, run or class 3 times a week (weekly)
  • Protein with every meal
  • No alcohol on weekdays
  • Meal prep on Sunday (weekly)
  • In bed by 11
  • Log food before eating

Pick two. Add a third in month two. Groups that start with six habits are the ones that stop in week three.

Friends, strangers or a coach?

Weight loss is personal in a way a reading habit isn't, and it decides who you want on the leaderboard.

  • Friends (Daily Pact, Squad, Sweatmates) are the strongest accountability, because letting them down costs something. Choose habit check-ins over weight sharing so nobody has to post a number.
  • Strangers (Cohorty, FineStreak) remove the embarrassment. Good for a first 30 days, or if your friends aren't on the same journey.
  • A coach (GoalsWon) is the expensive option, and the one that adapts when the plan isn't working.

A note on what this page is not

This is a comparison of accountability tools, not health advice. If you're losing weight for a medical reason, or thinking about a very low intake or a fast, talk to a doctor or a dietitian first and use these apps to stick to the plan they give you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best accountability app for weight loss?

For doing it with friends, Daily Pact: put the daily habits — steps, water, no sugar, workouts — in a private group and check in with one tap. Nobody shares a weight. For workouts with one partner, Sweatmates. For a paid human coach, GoalsWon.

Is there a free weight loss accountability app?

Cohorty is free with matched cohorts. Squad is free for private squads with friends. Sweatmates has a free tier for partner workouts. Daily Pact is free for 14 days, then $0.99 a month.

Can I do a weight loss challenge with friends without sharing my weight?

Yes, and it's the better way. Compete on habits — days you hit your steps, days without sugar, workouts this week — rather than on pounds. Daily Pact, Squad and Cohorty are all habit check-ins with no weight field.

Do these apps count calories?

No. They hold you to habits. Keep whatever food-logging app you already use; "log food before eating" is itself a good check-in habit.
